Ohio’s largest law enforcement union backs Husted after previously supporting Sherrod Brown
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Fraternal Order of Police of Ohio, the state’s largest law enforcement union representing more than 23,000 officers, today endorsed Jon Husted for the U.S. Senate.
The FOP is the fifth labor organization to endorse Husted this cycle after previously supporting Sherrod Brown, another sign that Brown is out of step with Ohio voters after spending 32 years in Washington.
Today’s announcement also builds on Husted’s overwhelming support from law enforcement. Husted previously earned endorsements from the National Border Patrol Council and a record-breaking 75 Ohio sheriffs.
“Ohio’s law enforcement officers risk their lives every day to keep our communities safe, and they deserve leaders who have their backs,” Husted said. “I’m honored to earn the FOP’s endorsement. They know what’s at stake because they’ve lived the consequences of Sherrod Brown’s record: during his 32 years in Washington, Brown voted eight times to fund sanctuary cities and supported amnesty for 11 million illegal immigrants. I’ll always stand with our police, secure the border and fight for the safety of Ohio families.”
FOP of Ohio President Jay McDonald said the union’s endorsement process focuses on candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to supporting law enforcement, including fighting back against the war on police.
“Our members take these decisions seriously because the officials elected statewide have a direct impact on public safety, the justice system and the working conditions of law enforcement officers,” McDonald said. “We’re not asking for anything revolutionary – we want candidates with a proven commitment to supporting law enforcement and standing with us on issues that help our members keep their communities safe.”
Throughout his public service, Husted has championed policies that support law enforcement, strengthen public safety and ensure officers have the tools and resources they need to protect Ohio communities.
Brown’s record stands in sharp contrast. During his three decades in Washington, Brown repeatedly opposed stronger border security measures even as the Biden administration’s open-border policies fueled record illegal immigration and fentanyl trafficking into Ohio. His record has increasingly alienated Ohio’s law enforcement community and reflects a Democrat Party that has abandoned the law-and-order policies Ohio families expect.
